Wedding Cake Trends for 2018-2019

Right from the shoes, to the dress, there are many exciting choices to be made leading up to your wedding day, and arguably, one of the most satisfying decisions in the wedding planning process is choosing what cake you’re going to have on your big day!

wedding cake is the traditional cake served at wedding receptions following dinner.  Modernly however, they are more of a centerpiece to the wedding and are not always served to the guests.

Whether you’re a bride, groom or guest, everyone knows the best part of a wedding is the cake. From elaborate multitiered confections to more rustic bakes made with love by a family member, sharing something sweet with everyone in attendance is a delightful way to kick off a wedding. Take a look at some of the trends below to help you decide which wedding cake trend is right for your special day.

‘On a side note, cupcakes have been less popular for quite some time and seem to have taken a backseat , instead it’s doughnuts which could be the new pastry popping up at weddings this year. ‘Another super cute trend are cake pops in the shape of popsicles.’

1. METALLIC CAKES

1. METALLIC CAKES

Metallics are big for everything, right from the stationery to reception table flatware—and cakes are no exception. One of the hottest wedding cake trends are stunning metallic cakes. We’re not talking about just a contemporary gold or silver palette style, but a more glamorous copper and rose gold look .They can adapt to pretty much any style be it delicate embroidery in gold or fresh geometric shapes. There is something very chic & fabulous about metallic cakes. Whether is the entire cake, one accent layer or just a few metallic details, metallics will always bring a touch of glamour and extra-elegance to your sweet confection.

2.    White-on-White Wedding Cakes

The traditional white wedding cake will never go out of style, Think a plain white cake is boring?

Not so fast. The fresh new way to do a white wedding cake is to add interesting all-white embellishments. Dress up tiers with details like piped embroidery, quilted fondant, fresh or sugar flower cascades, or jewelled embellishments. This traditional white beauty can be jazzed up with dynamic tiers in non-traditional shapes like hexagons, ovals or a geometric mix, or try combining tiers of varying heights for an unexpected side view. When it comes to flowers, there seems to be a rising demand for fresh florals – as well as an interest in handmade sugar flowers. There are always ways to reduce the cost, such as choosing one statement flower rather than masses of them.

3.    Rosette Wedding Cakes

The rosette look— ultra-romantic & created with over textural sugar roses—adds unique, luxe dimension without skimping on elegance. The colour palette can be a single colour depicting your wedding theme or the tiers can be graded using an ombre rosette effect – both of which will definitely catch the eye.

4.    Brushstroke Cakes

One of the coolest & latest wedding cake trends is brushstroke cakes. These art-inspired creations are also called Kalabasa feather cakes, thanks to the Russian bakery that regularly makes and shares them on Instagram. The trend consists of any number of tiers which is decorated with chocolates feathers.

5 Drip cakes

Drip cakes often go along with a naked or half naked wedding cake although you can certainly see it in all different types of cakes.  Drip cakes use liquid dark or white chocolate or caramel and pour it on top of the wedding cake so that it drips down the side in delicious designs.

6 Geode cakes

Geode cakes with plenty of crystal detail will still be a favourite in 2018.
